MEET THE THERAPIST
I am a progressive LCSW with 16 years of person-centered experience serving diverse populations (e.g. mental health, substance abuse, intellectually disabled, military, medically fragile, forensics). With proficiency in intake assessments, discharge planning, crisis stabilization, psychoeducation, staff training & development, and community outreach I have worked with ages 3 and up. Self-motivation helps me foster productive environments maximizing employee satisfaction and client success.
How did I get here and what drives me? Disappointed with my therapy experiences growing up sparked my interest. Initially I just wanted to know what therapist learned in school so I could understand myself and my life. Supporting people LIVE and not just make it through each day started to fuel me; sixteen years later and it still puts a smile on my heart. Each therapist has their own area of expertise or passion, keeping that in mind will help you find the best professional for you.
The very first time we meet… feel free to judge me! The last thing you want to do is share your heart & soul to someone you don’t connect with on some level. I’ll let you in on a secret-it may be comforting to have the accountability and techniques of a quality therapist, but YOU have to soak up the process and use what you’re learning in your everyday life. First session-expect to answer a lot of “get-to-know-you-and-your-history” questions. We gotta start somewhere!
From Day 1 I work to create an environment where people feel they can take a deep breath & “let it all out”! Next we sort things out until you feel like you’re moving in the right direction. I shed light on issues that could have been prevented if Emotional Wellness was taught as a regular subject in Elementary, Middle and High Schools.
Sometimes people have trouble setting goals for treatment. When this happens I just ask them to list all the things they “can’t stand” or “want to change” about themselves or their lives. Once that list is made we “flip the script” and turn the negative perception into something worth looking forward towards. Then we assign responsibility for who is going to do what as far as coming together to reach your goals.
